Tacos La 26! (Previously Ave 26 Tacos)

Price Range $1–10

Tacos La 26! is a no-frills taco stand tucked into a fenced parking lot on Alameda Street, offering an experience that feels much like grabbing street tacos in Mexico City rather than a conventional sit-down restaurant. Its straightforward setup — no indoor seating, just standing room or your own car for tailgate-style dining — emphasizes quick, casual eating over lingering dinners.

The spot is best known for a wide lineup of authentic Mexican tacos featuring a variety of meats, from classic al pastor and carne asada to less commonly seen options like lengua, suadero, and cabeza. The quesatacos, which come with a melted cheese crust, stand out for adding texture and rich flavor, while grilled onion topping and papas (potatoes) provide familiar, satisfying sides. Prices are budget-friendly, with tacos starting around $2.25, making it an easy choice for late-night or quick, hearty bites.

Because Tacos La 26! operates out of a parking lot with limited amenities — no restrooms available for customers and minimal seating — it attracts those comfortable with a grab-and-go mentality or dining from the hood of their car. The presence of a security guard and fenced perimeter lends a sense of safety amid the urban surroundings near Little Tokyo and the Arts District, although the area can feel a bit rough at night.

The best time to visit tends to be late evening, especially on weekends, when locals and night owls alike pop in craving freshly grilled, juicy meats just off the flame. If you come early enough, you can catch the carne asada right off the grill, with a mix of tender fatty and lean pieces that balance depth and freshness. Patrons bring cash, as there is no traditional POS and customers rely on an on-site ATM.

Overall, this place suits anyone seeking authentic, hearty Mexican tacos in a casual, urban setting without the trappings of a formal restaurant. It’s ideal for quick, savory eats after hours or a casual meetup where taste and price trump ambiance. If you’re looking for crisp quesadillas or street-style tacos with generous portions of meat and a touch of old school charm, Tacos La 26! fits that bill perfectly.

An amazing real taco spot! The vibe is wonderful, and the food is freshly cooked and full of flavor. The prices are very reasonable, which makes me even happier. It’s located right in a parking lot — simple, authentic, and so good. Highly recommend!

They load you up on the meat for sure at this place. I ordered 3 carne asada and 1 pastor taco. I got there at the perfect time and got the carne asada right when they were finished cooking it on the grill. It had both fatty and leaner pieces and was tender juicy and flavorful. Pastor taco was missing the pineapple, but that is just a nit pick. It was fatty and juicy. All they hand you off the grill is the meat and tortilla, and you get to put whatever you want toppings wise. A decent amount of toppings are available, including green and red salsa. Both grilled and raw onions, roasted potatoes, radishes, and grilled jalapeños Price wise, it is an absolute steal. The total came out to be $9 for 4 tacos. It is situated in a parking lot and they don't have any chairs or anything. If you don't have a car, there are a couple street light poles you can sit on. But dont be expecting a table or anything like some street taco vendors have.

Literally is like eating street tacos in Mexico. Good tacos, plenty of parking. Not tables for eating (you can use your own car). The area feels unsafe, but the lot is fully fenced

Bring CASH! There is an ATM there. Walk-in or parking to tailgate/parking lot trunk dining at. $2.25 per taco; $18 for 8 tacos. Recommend those proteins over pastor and asada. Located between Little Tokyo and Arts District. Open late 9am-4am/5am. Portable sink there and hand sanitizers around, no restroom (porta potty were locked for staff usage only). Is it me or did the quality and condiments get better? It's definitely way better than when they were at their original location. On Google, this placed is called Tacos La 26 now vs Avenue 26 Tacos. Monday night 9pmish, there was no line and plenty of parking available. We've been here before but I guess 1st time sober? I thought the lengua and tortilla was good. The SO liked cabeza out of lengua, cabeza and pastor. Both lengua and cabeza usually cost more so 5 stars on price and quality for those. We don't remember asada or pastor beong that great here. It's the condiments that really make their tacos. Their pickled red onions and potatoes add extra value. Drink station includes drinks, and more to buy from. - Hot Toppings: 2 potatoes (delicious! Only 2 per plate or pay $0.50 for more), grilled onions, grilled peppers. - Cold Toppings/condiments are located on the side: Picked red onions, diced onions with cilantro, green verde sauce, green guac sauce, radish slices, limes. No pickled carrots here but I rather have picked red onions instead.

What's better late night snack than Ave 26 tacos? It's located in a parking lot, and we pulled in around 10pm on a Sunday night. People from all colors and all walks of life seem to converge here in search of scrumptious bites. There's a security guard that patrols the area so you could enjoy your chow without hesitation. It's standing room only, no utensils or sitting area provided. We decided to eat in the car as it's a bit chilly that night. There's also a portable water station to wash hands before or after you dig in. There's a separate line for tacos or burritos or drinks, pay in cash or Apple/ Samsung Pay. Simple and orderly. Then, head over to the condiments section for different types of salsa, chopped onions or lime. The Al Pastor, Carne Asada, Cabeza and Lengua are usually my go to, but there're also brisket, pork belly, chorizo to choose from.

This place is truly a hidden gem in Downtown LA. You can enjoy really delicious tacos at a very affordable price — it honestly tastes just like the authentic tacos you’d find in Mexico. The beef tongue and cabeza tacos are incredibly soft and tender, and the flavors are spot-on. At only $2.25 per taco, it’s hard to beat the value. You can eat plenty without breaking the bank, which is one of the biggest reasons this place stands out. It’s definitely a spot everyone should try at least once. One thing to note is that, even though there’s a large parking lot, there’s no area to sit and eat. So keep that in mind when you visit. Other than that, it’s an amazing combination of price and flavor. Highly recommend!

Pretty good!! Not as good as Native Tongue (Calgary) but honestly amazing . Worth coming! They accept both cash and cards. 100% recommend. Quantity and flavours are great! Zero complaints. There is security here too! Parking was pretty good as well.
